MOTOR LEADER
Meeting challenges that would represent a quantum leap for

Sodick continues to be the only EDM machine that consistently
relies on linear drives. Extreme dynamics, rapid feeds,
excellent precision and highest-quality surface finishes down
to 0.04 Ra are the key benefits of this advanced drive
technology. It is wear-free, ensuring a sustained high
degree of precision. Since April 1999, when Sodick
introduced the world's first linear EDM machines, over 18,000
linear machines have been installed.

Our linear driven die-sinking and wire EDM machines as well as EDM fine-drilling tools ensure perfection down to the last detail. HIGH-SPEED JUMP
The Linear Ram EDM moves 22 times faster than a ball screw driven ram. The high-speed hydro pumping action removes waste particles without any additional flushing. This natural flushing action provides the most consistent cavity geometry.
HIGHER
PERFORMANCE
Linear motors have a considerably higher dynamic performance than ball screw drives. The table and the motor constitute one unit - without any intermediate components typical in a recirculating ball screws such as belts, pulleys or gears. Linear motors:
NO BALLSCREW MEANS NO BACKLASH
The more
complex the shape is and/or the worse the flush, linear motors
will separate themselves from the ball screw driven machines.
Linear motors will hold better accuracy anyplace there is a
change in the cutting path direction. Additionally, as a
machine ages, the ball screws will wear, thus creating more
clearance between the ballscrews.
